Job DescriptionJob Title: 1st Class Aluminum Shipfitter

Location: Lockport, LA

Position Overview: A 1st Class Aluminum Shipfitter lays out and fabricates metal structural parts and braces them in position within hull of vessel for welding.

Key Responsibilities:

\n

• Determines the position of structural components working from blueprints or templates. \n

• Provides direction to subordinate ship fitters and tack welders. \n

• Uses blueprints to lay out position of parts on metal. \n

• Locates and marks reference lines, such as center, buttock, and frame lines. \n

• Positions parts in hull of vessel and align parts in relation to each other. \n

• Marks location of holes to be drilled and installs temporary fasteners to hold part in place for welding or riveting. \n

• Installs packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories and members. \n

• Tack welds clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding. \n

• Bends, flanges, cuts, and shapes plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts. \n

• Must be able to perform shaping/cutting material with power tools such as skill saw, jig saw, metabo grinders and etc. \n

• Must be able to work in confined/enclosed spaces. \n

• Must be able to work/climb in elevations greater than 5'. \n

• Must be able to wear/work a respirator when applicable. \n

\n Qualifications:

• Five (5) years of marine or four (4) years of continuous company experience .

\n Skills:

\n

• Comprehends blueprints, sketches, and templates. \n

• Able to enter and move through manholes to reach and work in internally confined spaces. \n

• Accurate in performing the following processes layout cutting measuring and fitting. \n
