Overview
Railserve is hiring an experienced and safety-focused Locomotive Mechanic based out of Alabama to support locomotive maintenance operations throughout the region. This full-time role is critical to maintaining reliable locomotive equipment and supporting safe, efficient customer operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled and emergency maintenance on company locomotives
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical locomotive issues
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections and repairs
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, invoices, shipping documents, and expense reports
- Communicate maintenance updates and repair statuses with customers and operations teams
- Safely operate cutting torches and welding equipment
- Conduct periodic safety inspections on equipment
- Handle environmental materials and waste disposal according to company procedures
- Comply with company safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment
- Assist in identifying and correcting safety hazards
- Operate company-provided service truck throughout the region as needed
- Support additional maintenance and operational duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate degree or technical training preferred
- Strong mechanical experience required
- Electrical troubleshooting experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license required
- Ability to operate cutting torch and electrical welder
- Ability to work independently and safely in industrial environments
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift, carry, and handle heavy equipment and materials
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Must be able to maintain accurate maintenance documentation and reports
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check
- Military experience is a plus
