Job Description

Overview

The 2nd Shift TIG Welder position involves performing TIG welding on black carbon steel and stainless-steel pipe assemblies in a fast-paced production environment. Ideal candidates will have experience with high-volume, repetitive welding tasks and a commitment to quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform TIG welding on black carbon steel pipe up to 8 inches, including 4-inch pipe assemblies and carbon steel to stainless-steel welds.
  • Weld elbows and flanges that connect to compressors, ensuring strong, clean, and consistent joints.
  • Complete welds through all three welding phases: root pass, fill pass, and cover cap.
  • Properly prepare materials for welding, including grinding, beveling, and cleaning to ensure weld-ready surfaces.
  • Set up and operate TIG welding equipment, including wire-fed machines, in accordance with production specifications.
  • Maintain consistent weld quality while working on a moving production line with a strong focus on takt time and cycle time.
  • Follow established safety, quality, and production procedures at all times.
  • Work efficiently in a line-driven, repetitive production environment rather than a custom or job-shop setting.
  • Collaborate with production team members to meet daily output and quality goals.
  • Participate in and successfully complete weld tests, including black steel welds, as part of the qualification process.

Requirements

  • Proven TIG welding experience with black carbon steel.
  • Proven TIG welding experience with stainless steel.
  • Demonstrated ability to weld dissimilar metals, specifically carbon steel to stainless steel.
  • Extensive and recent experience with steel welding, including successful completion of weld tests.
  • Strong understanding of pipe preparation, including grinding, beveling, and fit-up for flanges and elbows.
  • Proficiency in performing root, fill, and cap weld techniques to production standards.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently without sacrificing weld quality.
  • Understanding of takt time and cycle time within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience working on or alongside a moving production line in a high-speed, production-focused setting.
