Overview

Ascent Aerospace is a leading provider of production and automated assembly systems for the aerospace and defense industry. The Fitter position involves inspecting and adjusting fabricated metal structures to meet required tolerances and assisting in fitting and fabricating structures according to customer specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Fits and tacks metal components to fabricate metal structures according to a CAD model.
  • Inspects and validates metal structures with a laser tracker to ensure proper amount of stock for CNC machining.
  • Establishes reference system of complex metal structures for setup on a CNC machine.
  • Troubleshoots fabrication issues and identifies repair plans for metal structures that do not meet dimensional requirements.
  • May review shop engineering drawings and models to assess and troubleshoot fabrication issues.
  • Repairs metal structures by grinding, plasma cutting and saw cutting in accordance with quality and safety standards.
  • Uses hydraulic jacks, hammers, and clamps to bend structures into place.
  • Builds and sets up fixtures used for repairing structures.
  • Measures and grinds metal framework using a laser tracker to fit into tolerance.
  • Operates a forklift and crane in accordance with safety standards.
  • Maintains work area, tools, and equipment in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
  • Understands workplace health and safety procedures.
  • Inspects fabricated components to ensure accuracy and quality standards are met.
  • Maintains accurate production and quality documentation.
  • Participates and takes responsibility for 5S.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful job performance will be considered.
  • 5 years experience with metalworking and metal fabrication preferred.
  • Understanding of metallurgy and heat treatment techniques and processes.
  • Prior experience desirable with operating a laser tracker.
  • Good mathematical aptitude and good judgment skills.
  • At least 3 years of verifiable relevant work experience in industrial manufacturing.
  • Experience with large material handling using forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Proven and demonstrated mechanical skills, as well as good working knowledge and experience of machine processes.
  • Must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a 'US Person' is required.

Additional Information

  • May be required to travel to other site locations during the workday.
  • Working conditions may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, and caustic chemicals.
  • Safety eyewear is mandatory in the manufacturing area.
  • Safety shoes are recommended in the manufacturing area.
