Overview
The Production Mechanic 1 is responsible for repairing, modifying, and upgrading rail cars, including rebuilding components and performing mechanical labor. The role requires proficiency in welding and cutting, along with the ability to work with various tools and equipment to ensure proper operation of railcars.
Responsibilities
- Repairs, modifies, and upgrades rail cars.
- Rebuilds car components such as bolsters, side framers, hitch heads, and box car doors.
- Welds, fabricates, and uses torch and carbon arc to cut.
- Performs mechanical labor and maintenance on railcars according to blueprints and specifications.
- Inspects machines and equipment to locate causes of trouble.
- Measures, cuts, and threads pipes, and replaces airlines using hand tools.
- Assembles sub-assemblies, major components, and equipment, and checks function for proper operation.
- Repairs broken parts using hand tools and welding equipment.
Requirements
- High school education or equivalent.
- Mechanical skills.
- Welding and cutting skills.
- Must pass company established welding test.
- Decision making and reasoning skills.
- Planning and scheduling abilities.
- Preferred: Ability to speak, understand, and read English proficiently.
Additional Information
- 10 hour shifts; Monday through Thursday with occasional overtime on Fridays.
- Requires indoor work 8 hours per day, and outdoor work 2 hours per day.
- Exposure to heat and humidity, working at heights, and around moving machinery.
