Job Description

Overview

This job is for a Railcar Repairman/Welder in Hollidaysburg, PA, focusing on repairing and maintaining railcars through mechanical work and welding. The role involves working in a heavy industrial environment and performing physically demanding tasks to ensure railcars operate safely and reliably.

Responsibilities

  • Perform railcar repairs and maintenance, completing approximately 60% mechanical tasks and 40% welding tasks.
  • Work safely around heavy equipment, railcars, and railroad tracks, following all safety procedures.
  • Interpret job work orders, blueprints, and schematics to determine required repairs.
  • Use mechanical skills to weld, cut, gouge, and assemble components for railcar repair.
  • Coordinate and complete all assigned railcar repair tasks accurately and on time.
  • Notify personnel of any materials or equipment required to complete job tasks.
  • Follow all safety rules and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Ensure all work meets FRA, AAR, and customer quality standards.
  • Perform grinding, torch cutting, fabrication, and mechanical assembly.
  • Use hand tools, air tools, and other shop equipment to repair railcar components.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues on railcars to determine appropriate repairs.
  • Complete any other duties as assigned to support railcar repair activities.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform a wide range of mechanical repairs.
  • Ability to weld, with experience in flux core welding preferred.
  • Ability to successfully take a flux core weld test.
  • Strong knowledge of hand tools, air tools, and related equipment.
  • Experience with torch cutting, grinding, and fabrication in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Capability to stand for long periods and lift repetitively.
  • Ability to work safely around heavy equipment and railroad tracks.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably involving mechanical work.
  • Willingness to learn and build additional knowledge of machines and repair techniques.
