Overview
The Pipefitter is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of all Medical Center piping systems and related operations. This position is located in Facilities Management Service under the Mechanical/Structural Unit.
Responsibilities
- Repairs plumbing systems.
- Installs, modifies, and repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems.
- Repairs equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems.
- Works from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out systems.
- Uses tools and equipment such as plumb bobs, mercury gauges, and hydrostatic pumps.
- Installs plumbing systems by locating and tapping main lines.
- Determines and installs valves, traps, and unions for proper operation.
- Tests systems and equipment for proper operation and leak-free joints.
- Modifies plumbing systems as needed.
- Installs and repairs high temperature water and high-pressure piping systems.
- Reads and interprets blueprints and manufacturers' literature.
- Cuts, threads, and connects pipes using various methods.
- Traces and troubleshoots pipe lines and systems to locate leaks.
- Performs safety and preventive maintenance inspections.
Additional Information
- Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday; 2:00pm - 10:30pm PST.
- Physical Requirements: Makes repairs and installations from ladders and scaffolding.
- Working Conditions: Work is done inside and outside, usually dirty and dusty.
