Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, spool sheets, P&IDs, and job specifications.
- Plan installation sequencing and coordinate work to avoid conflicts with other trades.
- Select appropriate pipe materials and sizes based on project requirements.
- Measure, cut, thread, groove, bend, and assemble piping using hand and power tools.
- Layout and install piping systems including carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, PVC, and other materials.
- Fit, align, and secure piping systems prior to welding or mechanical joining.
- Join piping using threaded, soldered, brazed, fused, cemented, or welded methods.
- Install pipe supports including hangers, brackets, clamps, and restraints in accordance with code.
- Assist welders with pipe preparation, alignment, and fit-up.
- Install and maintain mechanical systems such as pumps, compressors, meters, and controls.
- Perform hydrostatic, pneumatic, and leak testing using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
- Inspect worksites to identify obstructions and verify structural integrity.
- Ensure all work meets applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe and working condition.
- Follow OSHA regulations and company safety protocols at all times, including PPE usage.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, inspectors, and other trades.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience as a pipefitter in commercial or industrial mechanical construction.
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and P&IDs.
- Strong skills in measuring, cutting, fitting, and assembling various piping systems.
- Experience working with HVAC, hydronic, refrigeration, and/or process piping systems.
- Knowledge of piping codes, installation standards, and OSHA safety practices.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations and layout work accurately.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces, heights, and lifting 50+ pounds.
- Valid driver’s license required.
