Overview
The Glass Melting Equipment & Welding Design Engineer role involves hands-on manufacturing leadership and design work to create robust glass melting equipment. The position requires collaboration with production teams and a focus on thermal-mechanical problem-solving.
Responsibilities
- Partner with production during the morning melt-direction huddle to align priorities.
- Design and model glass melting equipment in SolidWorks, applying flow, heat transfer, and fatigue analyses.
- Create fully detailed 2D drawings, accurate BOMs, and clear Job Instruction Documents.
- Lead troubleshooting for melting performance issues related to equipment fabrication or upkeep.
- Supervise a union workforce including welders, masons, and CNC machine operators.
- Support equipment installations and guide technicians through start-up qualifications.
- Conduct First Article Inspections (FAI) on melting equipment and confirm compliance with Certificates of Conformance (CoCs).
- Serve as the business liaison to Germany-based central services on platinum matters.
- Act as the business custodian for platinum in interactions with government bodies and auditors.
- Procure raw earth and noble materials, including platinum and iridium.
- Source CNC tooling and mold-making equipment.
- Organize and optimize shop storage locations utilizing SAP.
- Forecast platinum consumption and recycling for availability and fiscal responsibility.
