Job Description

Overview

This National Guard position is for a Welder (Title 32) (Permanent), part of the VA G4, National Guard. The role involves performing various welding duties using different welding processes and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform welding duties using electric, acetylene, and/or inert gas shielded welding processes.
  • Repair, modify, or fabricate metal items using templates, jigs, blueprints, and other guides.
  • Make various types of joints on light and heavy equipment such as axles, frames, and tanks.
  • Weld or reinforce heavy armor plate.
  • Perform precision welding on jigs, dies, engineering, and automotive equipment.
  • Braise dissimilar metals and flame cut metal to size for fabrication.
  • Utilize basic sheet metal tools and equipment for repairs and fabrication.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
  • Lay out, position, and clamp work; select type of rod and size of tip for welding.
  • Determine necessary heat and adjust equipment accordingly.
  • Manually maintain proper speed, flame motion, tip and angle, and position of the welding flame.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
