Overview
This National Guard position is for a Welder (Title 32) (Permanent), part of the VA G4, National Guard. The role involves performing various welding duties using different welding processes and tools.
Responsibilities
- Perform welding duties using electric, acetylene, and/or inert gas shielded welding processes.
- Repair, modify, or fabricate metal items using templates, jigs, blueprints, and other guides.
- Make various types of joints on light and heavy equipment such as axles, frames, and tanks.
- Weld or reinforce heavy armor plate.
- Perform precision welding on jigs, dies, engineering, and automotive equipment.
- Braise dissimilar metals and flame cut metal to size for fabrication.
- Utilize basic sheet metal tools and equipment for repairs and fabrication.
- Read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
- Lay out, position, and clamp work; select type of rod and size of tip for welding.
- Determine necessary heat and adjust equipment accordingly.
- Manually maintain proper speed, flame motion, tip and angle, and position of the welding flame.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
