Overview
This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration, Erie VA Medical Center, Facilities Management Service, Maintenance and Repair (M&R) section. The work includes working with pipes and fittings from a range of high pressure to low pressure steam, water, sewer, fire sprinkler, and gas systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform welding repairs and fabrication using oxygen, acetylene, arc welding, and pipe welding.
- Inspect, adjust, clean, and repair plumbing fixtures and systems, steam operated equipment, heating and water systems, kitchen and laundry equipment, air compressors, medical compressed air systems, vacuum systems, oxygen systems, and natural gas distribution systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints and manufacturers' specifications for installing and repairing equipment.
- Conduct safety and preventive maintenance inspections of utility systems and equipment in accordance with VA regulations and National Codes.
- Maintain and repair supply, disposal, and utility systems such as water, sewer, and gas systems and associated components.
- Perform preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment and systems to ensure optimum performance.

- Work Schedule: Monday - Friday: 7:00am - 3:30pm
- The employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
- The employee handles, lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds.
- The work is done inside and outside, and is usually dirty, dusty, greasy, and smelly.
- There is frequent exposure to the possibility of uncomfortable heat conditions.
