Overview
This position is located at the Eastern Kansas Health Care System (EKHCS) Leavenworth VA Medical Center and functions as a Journeyman Pipefitter within the Quick Response Team of the Facilities Management Service, providing expert pipefitting services throughout the medical center to ensure proper installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems integral to facility operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repairs, alterations, installation, and modifications on all types of piping and steam systems.
- Plan, layout, and install various pipe sections, fittings, risers, and flexible branches according to specifications.
- Install, modify, repair, and replace plumbing and piping systems, including locating pipes behind walls and under floors.
- Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes as needed.
- Clear clogged drain lines and install/replacement of toilets, sinks, faucets, and other fixtures.
- Operate various tools and equipment including grinders, pipe threading machines, and welders.
- Support FMS management and project managers with design consultation and installation guidelines.
- Troubleshoot and repair problems with facility steam traps and heating control devices.
- Perform shop benchwork such as prefabricating and rebuilding pressure reducing valve stations.
- Maintain and service tools and equipment for safe operation.
- Participate in mitigation of Legionella risk in water supply.
- Assist with snow removal during inclement weather.
