Overview
The Pipefitter performs duties at the journeyman Maintenance Mechanic Pipefitter level, requiring knowledge of plumbing, steam fitting, and mechanical skills. The role involves working on various systems including steam distribution, water supply, and medical gas systems, as well as performing maintenance on mechanical equipment.
Responsibilities
- Receive work assignments from the supervisor through various means.
- Work on steam piping, valves, and steam powered equipment.
- Install and maintain plumbing fixtures and equipment.
- Work with various types of piping and valves.
- Perform rough-in, set and finish, and soldering tasks.
- Assemble and repair mechanical equipment like wheelchairs and surgical tools.
- Conduct welding repairs using electric arc and oxyacetylene methods.
- Use power operated equipment and hand tools properly.
- Process invoices using strong credit card skills.
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections as mandated.
- Plan and lay out proposed work for new installations or corrections.
- Estimate materials and labor required for assignments.
- May perform minor HVAC work including thermostat repairs and air filter replacements.
- May perform minor electrical work such as replacing ballasts and fixtures.
- Use a PC to enter work orders and order parts.
Requirements
- Knowledge of plumbing and steam fitting.
- Mechanical skills for equipment assembly and repair.
- Ability to work with various piping materials.
- Experience with welding techniques.
- Familiarity with power operated equipment and tools.
- Strong credit card skills for processing invoices.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance inspections.
- Physical ability to climb, crawl, and work in awkward positions.
Additional Information
- Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
- Physical requirements include climbing ladders and working in cramped spaces.
