About the Role The Elite Job is hiring journeyman Pipefitters and Steamfitters for industrial process piping, HVAC mechanical, and power generation projects across major industrial markets. Pipefitting and steamfitting are among the highest-paying skilled trades in the country that require no college degree. Journeyman pipefitters earn $36 – $52 per hour, and specialty industrial and power plant pipefitters regularly exceed $110,000 annually with overtime. This career is built through a union apprenticeship and years of field experience — not in a university classroom.
What You Will Do
- Install, assemble, fabricate, and maintain high-pressure and high-temperature piping systems for steam, process fluids, natural gas, and chilled water applications
- Read and interpret isometric piping drawings, P&IDs (piping and instrumentation diagrams), and mechanical drawings to plan and execute pipe installation
- Cut, thread, groove, and weld pipe using SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW processes on carbon steel, stainless steel, and chrome-moly pipe
- Perform precision alignment and support of piping to allow for thermal expansion using hangers, anchors, and expansion loops
- Install valves, flanges, specialty fittings, in-line instruments, and piping specialties per engineering specifications
- Perform hydrostatic pressure testing, pneumatic testing, and flushing of completed piping systems per applicable code
- Work on industrial turnaround and outage projects including petrochemical plants, refineries, power stations, and pharmaceutical facilities
- Follow ASME B31.1 (power piping) and B31.3 (process piping) code requirements on all pressure piping fabrication and installation
What You Need
- Completion of a UA (United Association) pipefitter apprenticeship or 4+ years of documented journeyman pipefitter field experience
- ASME Section IX pipe welding certification in SMAW or GTAW — most industrial positions require passing a weld test at hire
- Strong ability to read isometric pipe drawings and perform pipe layout and offset calculations in the field
- Experience with high-pressure steam systems, process piping, or power plant applications preferred
- Comfort working in industrial environments including refineries, power plants, and pharmaceutical clean rooms
- Physical ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in outdoor conditions throughout the shift
- High school diploma or GED — no college degree required
Nice to Have
- 6G pipe welding certification (open root with cap)
- Chrome-moly (P91/P22) welding experience and procedure qualification
- OSHA 30 industrial safety certification
- Rigging and material handling certification
What We Offer
- Top-market pay of $36 – $52 per hour based on certifications, pipe class, and project scope
- Per diem, travel pay, and mobilization allowances on out-of-area project assignments
- Significant overtime on industrial turnarounds, outages, and new plant construction projects
- Union health, welfare, and pension benefits through applicable UA Local
- Paid vacation and holidays per labor agreement terms
- Weld certification testing and renewal at company expense for all qualifying pipe classes
Pipefitting and steamfitting are among the most technically demanding and highest-compensated trades in the industrial construction sector. If you can read isometrics, run pipe to grade and elevation, and weld to code quality — you have skills that industry is actively competing to hire. At The Elite Job, we pay top rates and offer steady work on major industrial projects. Apply today. No degree required — your journeyman card speaks for itself.
