Job Description

Overview

The Welder/Repairperson at CalPortland is responsible for performing tack and finish welds on fabricated steel components or metal parts according to blueprints while ensuring safety and environmental compliance. This role involves a 12-hour rotating shift schedule and emphasizes the importance of maintaining a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Exhibit and maintain safe work and environmental compliance practices.
  • Perform fabrication, construction, installation, maintenance, repair, modification, and rework of machinery and structures per blueprints and instructions.
  • Diagnose failures and malfunctions of machinery and equipment and perform necessary repairs.
  • Fabricate frames and component parts from various materials and perform welding, brazing, and cutting.
  • Perform layout work from blueprints and sketches according to established practices.
  • Check own work for dimensions, alignment, fit, and safety compliance.
  • Set up and use rigging and cribbing as required.
  • Retrieve parts from storeroom and maintain cleanliness and order in work areas.
  • Perform duties related to dust collection and lubrication.
  • Conduct electrical and electronic maintenance and repair as needed.
  • Perform maintenance on mobile equipment as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Familiarity with computers.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Knowledge of hazards associated with the job.
  • Must use proper Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions including heat, dust, and confined spaces.
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, stoop, and bend for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 70 lbs.
  • Ability to walk on uneven surfaces and climb ladders.
  • Ability to see and hear safety indicators.
  • Exposure to noise requiring hearing protection.
  • Knowledge of equipment used in cement manufacturing is preferred.

Additional Information

  • This is a 12-hour rotating shift role (days/nights).
