Overview

The Welder/3rd Shift position involves setting up, operating, and tending welding machines to fabricate metal products. The role requires reading blueprints and inspecting completed work pieces to ensure quality and compliance with specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, or tend welding machines to fabricate metal products or assemblies.
  • Load or feed work pieces into welding machines.
  • Give directions to other workers regarding machine set-up and use.
  • Correct problems by adjusting controls or stopping machines.
  • Inspect, measure, or test completed metal work pieces for conformance to specifications.
  • Record operational information on specified production reports.
  • Perform basic MIG welding of galvanized steel.
  • Interpret blueprints, work orders, or production schedules.
  • Assemble, align, and clamp work pieces into holding fixtures.
  • Implement universal standards and specs to meet building codes.
  • Use precision measuring tools to inspect grooves and angles.
  • Conduct tests to check weld quality.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED certificate and/or industrial experience.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to do basic math.
  • Basic understanding of electricity.
  • Understanding of metallurgy.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of production processes and quality control.
