Overview

CB&I delivers integrated storage and asset-management solutions to help customers operate safely and efficiently. The Tank Welder role involves laying out, fitting, and welding fabricated heavy plate steel components to assemble tanks and pressure vessels.

Responsibilities

  • Selects equipment and plans layouts, assembly, and welding.
  • Positions and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications.
  • Tack-welds or welds on components and assemblies using welding equipment.
  • Determines required equipment and welding method.
  • Cuts workpieces using an oxy fuel hand torch.
  • Bolts, clamps, and welds together metal components.
  • May weld in various positions and under pre-heat conditions.
  • Loads, transports, and unloads materials and tools.
  • Assists in lifting, positioning, and securing materials.
  • Performs minor maintenance or cleaning of tools and equipment.
  • Installs and repairs fabricated parts into shop assemblies.
  • Removes rough spots from workpieces using a grinder or scraper.
  • Analyzes engineering drawings to plan layout and welding operations.
  • Develops templates and work aids to hold and align parts.
  • Inspects equipment and materials to identify defects.
  • Repairs machines or systems using necessary tools.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of geometry, metallurgy, and welding techniques.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Experience with various welding processes.
  • Ability to handle and move objects safely.
  • Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools.
  • Ability to maintain and use personal protective equipment.
