Overview

Astec is a global, environmentally focused infrastructure and manufacturing company that designs and builds innovative products for asphalt road building and aggregate processing. The Welder III position involves welding metal components under the supervision of the Department Production Manager, ensuring adherence to specifications and production schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor labor hours and update labor board daily.
  • Conduct morning briefing with team and delegate daily work.
  • Adhere to all safety rules and perform work at a quality level.
  • Read and understand assigned blueprints prior to starting a project.
  • Participate in process and product development and improvement programs.
  • Accurately inspect metal prior to welding to ensure clean welds.
  • Perform grinding operations that comply with Astec’s standards.
  • Support team by providing an efficient layout of the plants equipment to ensure proper welding.
  • Perform a full range of welding and fabricating duties including fitting, joining, fabricating, repairing, and troubleshooting.
  • Inspect welds for quality and proper weld.
  • Keep work area clean and neat.
  • Ensure welding machine settings are appropriate for work to be performed.
  • Safely use saws, cranes, and forklifts.
  • Maintain welding machines by keeping them clean and changing liners in the welding guns.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Trade school or community college course work preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience with heavy equipment production line welding.
  • Basic Computer knowledge.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform all Grinder tasks required.
  • Ability to properly and safely MiG weld, Flux Core stick weld, and arc gouging required.
  • Ability to read and understand weld symbols required.
  • Successful completion of Permit Required Confined Space Entry training is needed.
