Overview
As a Senior Welding Engineer at Caterpillar Inc., you will oversee welding processes and technologies, collaborating with design and production teams to implement effective welding solutions that emphasize quality, safety, and efficiency. The role requires a strong background in various welding techniques and a commitment to maintaining high standards throughout the production lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Develop welding techniques, procedures, and equipment applications to address fabrication issues.
- Conduct research and development investigations to test new fabrication processes and improve existing methods.
- Provide training to technical and operational personnel on joining techniques and applicable codes.
- Establish welding procedures that guide production and welding personnel.
- Evaluate new developments in the welding field for potential application to current challenges.
- Direct and coordinate technical personnel in inspections to ensure compliance with established welding procedures.
- Engage with personnel from other agencies and engineering teams to exchange ideas and provide technical advice.
- Perform experimental welding to assess new equipment, techniques, and materials.
- Conduct materials and weld failure investigations and serve as the Steward for the Facility Weld Quality Plan.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in welding applications and related manufacturing processes.
- Experience using engineering specifications and various industry welding specifications.
- Experience with robotic or automated welding equipment, preferably ABB and/or Fanuc Robotic Welding Systems.
- Proven experience leading project teams to meet New Product Introduction (NPI) schedules.
- Strong background in welding processes including GMAW, GTAW, SAW, and FCAW.
