Overview
Working for a world-class leader in building structures and bridges, a Schuff Steel Fitter brings expertise in steel and bridge fabrication to build complex projects in various sectors. This position is critical to the production process, assembling and fitting materials according to drawing dimensions while adhering to safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Receives instructions, prints, sketches, and work orders.
- Reads and interprets blueprints and plans the fitting operation.
- Directs and assists in handling and spreading of material, assembling material according to detail drawings.
- Lays out work lines or fits up jigs for positioning material when required.
- Checks, squares, and scribes all detail connections.
- Ensures work conforms to drawings and notes.
- Cleans up material by grinding or chipping.
- Burns and tack welds for assembly purposes.
- Burns, copes, bevels, and straightens material.
- Does minor layout and spot paints for identification marks.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Performs other routine duties per management direction.
- Adheres to and follows all safety rules and PPE requirements.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 12 months experience required.
- Must pass fitter test.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints and safety rules.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and other employees.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
