Overview
Hermeus is a venture-backed defense aviation company focused on rapid iterative prototyping to build the fastest aircraft in the world. The Senior Welding Engineer will support the manufacturing and development of Hermeus vehicles by establishing welding processes and optimizing designs.
Responsibilities
- Support weld shop development for full scale welded assemblies
- Develop, optimize, and qualify weld processes for various welding methods
- Assist design, manufacturing, and materials engineering with root cause analysis
- Collaborate with design, tooling, automation, and development engineers to enhance welded designs
- Set up welding qualification test campaigns and interpret testing results
- Support manufacturing engineers and welders with correct techniques in a fast-paced environment
- Develop and implement improved process control using feedback from tests
- Research new welding technologies to enhance rate, quality, and efficiency
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
- Hands-on fabrication, manufacturing, or testing experience of welded assemblies
- Master’s degree in welding engineering or related technical program (preferred)
- Hands-on welding experience with various alloys (stainless steel, nickel-based, titanium, copper, aluminum)
- Experience with brazing, joining, and metallographic interpretation
- Understanding of welding processes including laser beam, plasma arc, gas tungsten arc, and gas metal arc
- Tooling design experience for welded assemblies
- Knowledge of weld strength testing methodologies and data acquisition systems
- Experience with root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Self-motivated with keen attention to detail
