Overview

Amtrak is seeking a Boilermaker Welder in Chicago to be responsible for metal fabrication and welding of rolling stock equipment and components according to industry standards. The company prioritizes safety and values diversity, teamwork, and customer focus.

Responsibilities

• Conducts shielded metal arc or gas metal arc welding processes with various types of steel and aluminum.
• Performs maintenance in accordance with AWS and 49CFR regulations.
• Fabricates fittings of weldments using metal machinery.
• Executes various welding operations and thermal cutting techniques.
• Welds with plates of varying thickness and stock types.
• Performs repairs on truck and bolster components and other equipment.
• Uses overhead cranes for lifting metal plates and structural steel.
• Reads blueprints and drawings to work from design templates.
• Maintains proper care and use of materials and tools.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience in heavy welding and metal fabrication.
• Must complete training and retain certification applicable to the job.
• Knowledge of crane operations and power tool usage.
• Skill in thermal cutting and rigging equipment.
• Experience in metal identification and blueprint analysis.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate proficiently.
• Some computer skills.
