Overview

The Cook County Department of Facilities Management is seeking a Steamfitter to lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and maintain various piping systems under the general direction of the Steamfitter Foreman. This position requires a strong knowledge of the steamfitter trade and involves significant physical exertion and travel throughout Cook County.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and maintain piping systems, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Maintain steam heating plants, steam power lines, pumps, and oil lines.
  • Inspect work sites for obstructions and structural weaknesses.
  • Plan installation sequences to avoid obstructions and other workers' activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an approved Steamfitter Journeyman Apprenticeship Program or five years of full-time work experience as a Steamfitter.
  • Valid certification in Pipe Welding recognized by the American Welding Society.
  • Valid Driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.

  • Moderate to extensive travel is required throughout Cook County.
  • The position involves very heavy work, requiring the ability to lift over 100 pounds occasionally.
