THE SHOP Arthur + Lucca is Chicago's premier tailor shop — a studio where expert craftsmanship meets genuine hospitality. We specialize in custom clothing and precision alterations for everything from denim and suiting to formalwear and bridal gowns. With over 150,000 hours of alterations completed and hundreds of custom garments crafted for both men and women, we've built a reputation as the city's authority on fit — and we're the top recommendation for bridal alterations by some of Chicago's leading wedding boutiques. This isn't a dry-cleaning counter. It's an atelier.
THE ROLE We're looking for an Alterations Fitter and Custom Clothing Stylist — someone who reads a garment the way a musician reads sheet music. You'll work directly with clients through every stage of the fitting process, pinning and marking with precision, communicating adjustments with confidence, and helping people feel genuinely great in what they wear. As you grow with us, you'll also be trained in our custom clothing program — guiding clients through fabric selection, garment design, and the full made-to-measure and bespoke experience for both men and women. If you've ever wanted to build a book of clients who trust you with their entire wardrobe, this is that role.
YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT BY Conducting bridal and ready-to-wear fittings with skill, warmth, and precision Pinning and marking garments clearly so our sewing team can execute flawlessly Guiding clients through the alteration process — setting expectations, answering questions, and leaving them confident at every stage Collaborating with tailors and stylists to deliver a seamless experience from first fitting to final pickup Learning our custom clothing program and introducing clients to bespoke and made-to-measure options — naturally, conversationally, and without pressure Building lasting client relationships across both alterations and custom clothing over time Contributing to a studio culture where quality, hospitality, and craft are non-negotiable
WHO YOU ARE You have hands-on experience fitting clients for alterations — bridal gowns and ready-to-wear both. You understand fit from the inside out: proportion, balance, drape, and movement. You're calm under pressure, sharp with clients, and you take real pride in your work. You also: Communicate adjustments clearly — to clients and to the sewing team Are genuinely curious about clothing — construction, fabric, style — and eager to deepen your knowledge Thrive in a structured, quality-driven environment Can perform basic alterations on jackets, pants, dresses, and gowns (a plus, not a requirement) Are dependable, self-motivated, and value doing it right the first time Can handle basic computer tools — email, data entry, client tracking
WHY ARTHUR + LUCCA Real craft, real clients. Every fitting matters. Brides, executives, everyday people — you'll do work that genuinely changes how someone feels in their clothes. A brand people trust. We're the first call for bridal alterations from some of Chicago's top boutiques. That reputation was built by people like you. A complete skill set. You'll be trained in both alterations and custom clothing — building expertise that opens doors well beyond this role. Room to grow. As you develop in the custom program, you'll earn commission on team-wide custom clothing sales — typically $400–$600/month with no ceiling. We promote from within and reward initiative. Quality of life. Full-time, year-round role with unlimited PTO, a flexible schedule, and a culture that respects your time. A meritocracy. Your growth here is tied directly to your craft, consistency, and contribution — not tenure or office politics.
THE SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION Schedule: Friday–Monday plus one additional weekday — full-time, year-round (not seasonal) Training Pay: $48,000/year during onboarding (2–12 weeks depending on experience) Post-Training: $58,000/year base salary — plus commission on custom clothing sales made by the entire team once you're trained and active in the custom program, typically $400–$600/month with no ceiling Benefits: Unlimited PTO · Employee discount · Flexible schedule · Paid training
THE NEIGHBORHOOD Our studio is in the West Loop — one of Chicago's most dynamic and design-forward neighborhoods. Restaurant row, boutique fitness, top-tier coffee, and the energy of a neighborhood that takes craft seriously. It suits us.
