Overview

Interstate Waste Services is a leading provider of solid waste and recycling services, servicing Northern New Jersey, Southern New York State, New York City, and Connecticut. The A Welder / Fabricator is a senior-level technician responsible for high-quality welding and fabrication, requiring advanced skills in MIG and stick welding.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced MIG welding, stick welding and metal fabrication on various container types and compactor components.
  • Rebuild or replace structural frames, bottoms, lids, caster brackets, and mechanical parts using custom-cut steel.
  • Interpret repair orders and/or sketches to execute precise rebuilds or modifications.
  • Use cutting torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and bending tools to shape and prepare materials.
  • Lead fabrication of specialized equipment or container configurations as needed for customer orders.
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure all welds meet company standards.
  • Mentor and train junior welders and assist with onboarding of new hires.
  • Maintain clean and organized welding area and perform basic preventative maintenance on shop tools.
  • Track parts used and time spent on custom or complex builds for cost analysis.
  • Collaborate with supervisors.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years MIG welding, stick welding and fabrication experience in industrial or structural repair settings.
  • Proven ability to perform precise welds in various positions and on worn or contaminated metal.
  • Advanced skills using fabrication tools including shears, brakes, torches, and weld jigs.
  • Self-motivated and capable of leading complex projects with minimal supervision.
  • Strong safety awareness and adherence to PPE and shop protocols.
  • Ability to lift heavy materials, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and operate yard equipment as needed.

Additional Information

  • Shift: Monday-Friday 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • Work environment involves indoor shop and outdoor yard environments with exposure to welding heat, fumes, and heavy lifting.
