Overview

The Structure Maintainer C (Ironworker) position involves performing ironwork on subway, surface, and elevated structures under supervision. Candidates must pass a Civil Service Exam for permanent status and are expected to work various shifts in different locations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ironwork on subway, surface, and elevated structures.
  • Conduct structural work including incidental painting.
  • Perform shoring, welding, burning, rigging, high-strength bolting, and rivet removal.
  • Execute electric welding, brazing, acetylene cutting, and sheet metal work on railcar bodies.
  • Load, unload, and drive trucks and vans.
  • Perform related work as necessary.

Requirements

  • Three years of satisfactory full-time experience as a journey-level ironworker.
  • Completion of a four-year, full-time apprenticeship in the ironwork trade.
  • Two years of satisfactory full-time experience as a helper or trainee in ironwork.
  • Graduation from a vocational high school with a major in ironwork or a closely related field.
  • Graduation from a trade school or technical school with at least 600 hours in ironwork.
  • An associate degree or higher in ironwork or a closely related field.
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Driver License in the State of New York.
  • Ability to understand and communicate in English.
