Overview
The Co-Gen Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing cogeneration and auxiliary equipment, ensuring the proper operation of the cogeneration electrical system, and assisting in the day-to-day operations of the Co-gen plant.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the day-to-day operations, maintenance and repairs of the Co-gen plant and auxiliary equipment.
- Dismantle a diesel engine with limited to no instruction from management or outside vendors.
- Maintain a close professional relationship with outside contractors responsible for work on the co-generation system.
- Ensure proper operations and maintenance of the cogeneration electrical system and its interface with the hospital's electrical distribution system.
- Track energy savings in terms of energy saved and dollars saved.
- Prepare necessary reports to communicate the status of the plant and work to be performed.
- Observe various meters and gauges in the cogeneration plant and take appropriate action.
- Monitor, report, and maintain proper levels of supply of all chemicals used in the cogeneration plant.
- Assist in the proper operation and maintenance of heating, cooling, ventilation, power generation, and auxiliary equipment.
- Start, stop, and switch over engine generators and associated equipment as appropriate.
- Complete assigned work such as repacking of valves, changing piping, cleaning and painting, and lubrication of equipment.
- Ensure waste heat boilers and catalytic converter are performing within acceptable operating parameters.
- Perform timely repairs and/or replacements of broken or worn parts.
- Keep a log on plant waste heat boiler, radiator, and cooling tower water samples.
- Assign proper chemical treatment to waste heat boiler and cooling waters.
- Document all major repair needs and unsafe conditions.
- Ensure the power plant is kept clean and orderly.
- Assist Plant Operations personnel in performing periodic inspections of mechanical rooms and patient rooms.
- Check temperature and pressure gauges periodically and take remedial action as required.
- Ensure all urgent corrective routine and requisitioned repairs are performed timely.
- Maintain records, reports, logs, statistics, and files as required.
- Perform other duties as directed.
