Overview

The Senior Welding Engineer will play a crucial role in enhancing manufacturing capabilities and improving safety, quality, and innovation in the production process.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and approve welding and brazing techniques and procedures.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot weld and vacuum braze issues.
  • Prepare and evaluate metallurgical samples for production validation.
  • Provide technical guidance on welding and metallurgy to engineers and manufacturing associates.
  • Collaborate with the Quality team on testing activities and reporting.
  • Guide the Manufacturing Engineering team on welding and heat treatment issues.
  • Develop and test new welding methods and processes with Engineering and Operations.
  • Work with Product Engineers on the design and development of new products.
  • Identify potential welding applications for future technology savings.
  • Create procedures and work instructions for the welding process.
  • Engage in continuous improvement activities to enhance throughput and machine uptime.
  • Lead structured problem-solving events to improve first-pass yield.
  • Select and document appropriate welding equipment and settings.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments to facilitate workflow.
  • Conduct training in welding-related matters as a subject matter expert.
  • Evaluate new developments in the welding field for potential application.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, materials sciences, or metallurgy with a focus on welding/heat treatment.
  • 7 years of combined welding, surface treatment, and electron beam experience.
  • Extensive experience with weld and surface treatment processes.
  • Detailed understanding of gas tungsten arc welding/tungsten inert gas process.
  • Knowledge of production specifications and properties of stainless steel and high nickel alloys.
  • Experience with electron beam (EB) welding preferred.
  • Detailed understanding of vacuum brazing and its variables.
