The Senior Welding Engineer will play a crucial role in enhancing manufacturing capabilities and improving safety, quality, and innovation in the production process.
Responsibilities
- Develop and approve welding and brazing techniques and procedures.
- Monitor and troubleshoot weld and vacuum braze issues.
- Prepare and evaluate metallurgical samples for production validation.
- Provide technical guidance on welding and metallurgy to engineers and manufacturing associates.
- Collaborate with the Quality team on testing activities and reporting.
- Guide the Manufacturing Engineering team on welding and heat treatment issues.
- Develop and test new welding methods and processes with Engineering and Operations.
- Work with Product Engineers on the design and development of new products.
- Identify potential welding applications for future technology savings.
- Create procedures and work instructions for the welding process.
- Engage in continuous improvement activities to enhance throughput and machine uptime.
- Lead structured problem-solving events to improve first-pass yield.
- Select and document appropriate welding equipment and settings.
- Coordinate activities with other departments to facilitate workflow.
- Conduct training in welding-related matters as a subject matter expert.
- Evaluate new developments in the welding field for potential application.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, materials sciences, or metallurgy with a focus on welding/heat treatment.
- 7 years of combined welding, surface treatment, and electron beam experience.
- Extensive experience with weld and surface treatment processes.
- Detailed understanding of gas tungsten arc welding/tungsten inert gas process.
- Knowledge of production specifications and properties of stainless steel and high nickel alloys.
- Experience with electron beam (EB) welding preferred.
- Detailed understanding of vacuum brazing and its variables.
