Overview

The Welder/Fabricator Mechanic is responsible for fabricating, repairing, and maintaining stainless steel equipment and production machinery in a food manufacturing environment. This role ensures that all fabrication work meets food safety standards and supports production efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Support General Plant Safety, Food Safety, Food Defense Initiatives, and Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Plan details of work order procedures and gather required tools and materials.
  • Fabricate, weld, and assemble stainless steel components for bakery production equipment.
  • Perform TIG, MIG, and stick welding on various materials.
  • Repair damaged bakery equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques.
  • Monitor welding processes to prevent overheating or damage.
  • Modify existing equipment to improve production efficiency.
  • Prepare, assemble, and tack weld parts and surfaces.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and fabrication drawings accurately.
  • Ensure all fabricated equipment meets food safety and sanitary standards.
  • Grind, polish, and finish welds for hygienic surfaces.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams on projects.
  • Maintain welding equipment, tools, and fabrication shop area.
  • Follow OSHA safety regulations and food safety policies.
  • Assist with installation of new bakery equipment and production lines.
  • Notify supervisor of faulty equipment or defective materials.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship in welding or metal fabrication.
  • Minimum 2–5 years welding/fabrication experience, preferably in food manufacturing.
  • Experience with stainless steel sanitary welding is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of GMP, food safety, and sanitary design standards.
  • Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.
  • Manual dexterity and stability for precision work.
  • Ability to see details at close range.
  • Physical ability to traverse facilities and machinery.
  • May require working nights, weekends, or overtime.
