Overview
The Welder position is a waterfront shipboard construction and re-modernization role, working within shipyards and drydocks on U.S. Naval Ships. The job involves applying various welding processes and requires at least 1 year of related experience.
Responsibilities
- Applies appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other materials that require welding.
- Works from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, or work orders.
- Lays out and marks points on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates.
- Uses measuring instruments and hand tools to position pieces that require welding into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps.
- May inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.
- Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Participates in special projects, as required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED
- 1+ years of related experience
- Skills in blueprints, welding, and welding procedures
- US Citizenship required
- Required certifications include MIG for aluminum GMAW, Flux core FCAW for carbon steel and stainless, and Stick weld for carbon steel and stainless SMAW
- Preferred experience in TIG for all metals GTAW, CUNI, and copper/face feed certification in brazing.
