Overview

A Combination Pipe Welder secures components together using electric welding and creates accurate welds that can withstand various industrial systems. Responsibilities

  • Lays out, aligns, and welds components to assemble structural forms according to blueprints.
  • Uses various welding processes including Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, or Shielded Metal Arc.
  • Bolts, clamps, and welds metal components of products using arc and arc gas welding equipment.
  • Removes excess weld, defective weld material, slag, and spatter using appropriate tools.
  • Connects cable from welding unit to obtain specified amperage and voltage.
  • Manually guides electrode or gun along weld-line to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
  • Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
  • Starts power supply to produce electric current.
  • Performs burning and uses scarfing tip for clean-up.
  • Demonstrates Yates Core Values and Principles.
  • Follows Yates Code of Conduct.
  • Responsible for safety and reporting hazards.
  • Participates in workplace inspections and safety training.
  • Completes any other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Five (5) + years of heavy industrial-related welding experience.
  • Welding school associate degree or equivalent on-the-job training.
  • Proficient in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW welding processes.
  • Capable of certifying on multi-process pipe.
  • Must be able to read and follow a welding procedure.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions and documents independently.
  • Personal hand tools required as per Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List.
  • Successful completion of required Safety training.
