Overview

Quikrete Heavy Construction Materials is seeking a Yellow Iron Field Mechanic in Phoenix, AZ, responsible for the maintenance and servicing of yellow iron equipment. The role involves diagnosing and repairing various systems, performing field service, and ensuring safety and documentation standards are met.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair engine, hydraulic, electrical, cooling, fuel, and drive train systems.
  • Service and rebuild components such as hydraulic cylinders, pumps, motors, final drives, swing bearings, and radiators.
  • Perform scheduled Preventative Maintenance (PMs) following OEM and company standards.
  • Troubleshoot fault codes using CAT ET or similar diagnostic software.
  • Identify root causes of repeated failures and report them to the Equipment Manager.
  • Perform welding and fabrication as needed.
  • Respond to breakdowns on active jobsites.
  • Safely perform field diagnostics and repairs with minimal downtime.
  • Communicate equipment status and ETA on repairs.
  • Complete accurate service reports and work orders.
  • Track parts usage, labor hours, and service notes.
  • Relay equipment needs, operator issues, or safety concerns.
  • Follow all safety guidelines including Lockout/Tagout and 360° walkaround inspections.
  • Maintain a clean, organized service truck and shop area.
  • Report unsafe conditions immediately.

Requirements

  • 1+ years heavy equipment/yellow iron mechanic experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Caterpillar, Komatsu, or John Deere equipment.
  • Proficient with hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read equipment schematics and parts diagrams.
  • Welding and fabrication experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and work in outdoor jobsite conditions.
