Overview
A Combination Pipe Welder secures components together using electric welding and creates accurate welds that withstand various industrial processing systems. Responsibilities
- Lays out, aligns, and welds components according to blueprints and metallurgy.
- Uses various welding processes including Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, or Shielded Metal Arc.
- Bolts, clamps, and welds together metal components using arc and arc gas welding equipment.
- Removes excess weld, defective weld material, slag, and spatter using appropriate tools.
- Connects cable from welding unit to obtain specified amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse.
- Manually guides electrode or gun along weld-line to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
- Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
- Starts power supply to produce electric current.
- Performs burning and uses scarfing tip for clean-up and beveling parts.
- Demonstrates Yates Core Values and Principles.
- Follows Yates Code of Conduct.
- Participates in workplace inspections and safety meetings.
- Completes other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Five (5) + years of heavy industrial-related welding experience.
- Welding school associate degree or equivalent on-the-job training.
- Proficient in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW welding processes.
- Capable of certifying on multi-process pipe.
- Must be able to read and follow a welding procedure.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions and perform work activities independently.
- Personal hand tools required as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List.
- Successful completion of required Safety training including Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights.
