Overview
The Mechanic B supports the Mechanic A and higher titles in various maintenance functions in the power plant including electrical, mechanical and welding. This role involves pursuing a career path qualifying as a senior title while performing welding tasks, mechanical duties, and electrical work.
Responsibilities
- Support Mechanic A and higher titles in maintenance functions.
- Pursue a career path qualifying as the senior title.
- Perform welding tasks and various mechanical duties on live steam, gas, and electric facilities.
- Work on mechanical equipment in maintaining, repairing, and installing power piping systems.
- Work on electrical equipment to install, repair, and maintain utility electrical equipment.
- Interpret welding specifications, standards, and procedures.
- Obtain both the New York State and New York City Asbestos Handler's License.
- Drive a company vehicle to work locations when required.
- Gain knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC).
- Work weekends, midnight shifts, and overtime when necessary.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED and Minimum 3 years related work experience (Mechanical/Electrical).
- Experience in a power plant, US Navy, or maritime environment.
- Minimum 2 years of welding experience and qualified in API1104.
- Possess New York FDNY burning and fireguard license.
- Must be qualified or willing to take and pass a brazing qualification test.
- Must be qualified or willing to take and pass an Inconel metal welding test.
- Must be qualified or willing to take and pass a forklift driving test.

- Must work at field locations in all weather conditions.
- Must perform heavy manual labor, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Must carry tools and materials, climb ladders and scaffolds, and enter confined spaces.
- Must work in inclement weather and adverse conditions.
- Must be approved to wear a respirator in accordance with OSHA regulations.
- This position will involve rotating shifts, extended overtime, overnight and weekend assignments.
