Overview

The Mechanic B supports the Mechanic A and higher titles in various maintenance functions in the power plant including electrical, mechanical and welding. This role involves pursuing a career path qualifying as a senior title while performing welding tasks, mechanical duties, and electrical work.

Responsibilities

  • Support Mechanic A and higher titles in maintenance functions.
  • Pursue a career path qualifying as the senior title.
  • Perform welding tasks and various mechanical duties on live steam, gas, and electric facilities.
  • Work on mechanical equipment in maintaining, repairing, and installing power piping systems.
  • Work on electrical equipment to install, repair, and maintain utility electrical equipment.
  • Interpret welding specifications, standards, and procedures.
  • Obtain both the New York State and New York City Asbestos Handler's License.
  • Drive a company vehicle to work locations when required.
  • Gain knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC).
  • Work weekends, midnight shifts, and overtime when necessary.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and Minimum 3 years related work experience (Mechanical/Electrical).
  • Experience in a power plant, US Navy, or maritime environment.
  • Minimum 2 years of welding experience and qualified in API1104.
  • Possess New York FDNY burning and fireguard license.
  • Must be qualified or willing to take and pass a brazing qualification test.
  • Must be qualified or willing to take and pass an Inconel metal welding test.
  • Must be qualified or willing to take and pass a forklift driving test.

  • Must perform heavy manual labor, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Must carry tools and materials, climb ladders and scaffolds, and enter confined spaces.
  • Must work in inclement weather and adverse conditions.
  • Must be approved to wear a respirator in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • This position will involve rotating shifts, extended overtime, overnight and weekend assignments.
