Overview

Tutor Perini Corporation is seeking a Project Engineer for the Midtown Bus Terminal Project site in Manhattan, NY. The role involves managing steel-related engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle and ensuring compliance with design and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate steel-related engineering activities throughout project lifecycle, from design through fabrication and erection.
  • Review and interpret structural steel drawings, specifications, and contracts to ensure compliance with design and quality standards.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineers, fabricators, contractors, and site teams to resolve technical issues and optimize construction methods.
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, material take-offs, and steel quantity estimates.
  • Conduct site visits to monitor steel installation progress, quality control, and adherence to safety regulations.
  • Coordinate procurement of steel materials, ensuring specifications and delivery schedules are met.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation plans related to steel structures.
  • Support project scheduling, budgeting, and reporting with a focus on steel works.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and company policies related to steel construction.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers and field staff on steel construction best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.
  • Seven (7)+ years as a Project Engineer in civil construction, with a strong focus on steel structures.
  • In-depth knowledge of steel fabrication, welding, erection, and related codes (e.g., AISC, AWS, Eurocodes).
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, STAAD.Pro, or equivalent.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations in construction.
  • Experience with large infrastructure projects involving steel bridges, industrial buildings, or heavy civil structures.
  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP) or structural engineering licensure.
  • Familiarity with BIM and construction management software.
