Overview

Bureau Veritas is seeking a highly experienced Master Special Inspector to lead and execute critical inspections across complex building, transportation, and infrastructure projects throughout New York City. This role is designed for a subject matter expert who brings deep command of the NYC Building Code and a full suite of ICC certifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform and oversee Special Inspections across structural steel, welding, bolting, concrete, and masonry in accordance with NYC Building Code (Chapter 17) requirements.
• Serve as the on-site authority, ensuring all construction activities meet approved plans, specifications, and regulatory standards.
• Review construction documents, shop drawings, and submittals to verify compliance prior to and during field execution.
• Identify non-conforming work, document deficiencies, and work directly with contractors and project teams to drive timely resolution.
• Prepare, maintain, and submit accurate, detailed inspection reports in accordance with NYC DOB requirements and company standards.
• Coordinate with engineers, architects, contractors, and clients to ensure seamless communication and alignment throughout all phases of construction.
• Monitor critical installation activities, including structural framing, concrete placement, and welding operations, ensuring proper procedures and materials are utilized.
• Witness and document required testing procedures, including concrete sampling, field testing, and welding inspections.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices, ensuring inspections reflect current regulatory requirements.
• Support project scheduling by coordinating inspection activities to meet construction timelines without compromising quality or compliance.
• Uphold and enforce jobsite safety standards, including adherence to OSHA and site-specific safety protocols.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior inspectors, reinforcing quality expectations and technical standards.
• Act as a trusted advisor to clients and internal teams, offering technical insight and solutions to complex field conditions.
• Maintain all required certifications and proactively pursue additional credentials to expand technical capabilities and service offerings.
