Overview

E2 Consulting Engineers, Inc. (E2) is a professional services firm established in 1988 specializing in a full spectrum of engineering services. The Dual Coating & Welding Inspector is responsible for ensuring proper welding procedures, quality of work, and compliance with documentation and safety standards in pipeline construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assure proper welding procedures are qualified and utilized.
  • Ensure radiographers and welders are certified and qualified.
  • Maintain documentation including MTRs, detailed as-builts, and weld mapping.
  • Inspect contractor’s quality of work according to client policies.
  • Be familiar with approved construction drawings and company specifications.
  • Understand contract documents related to project duties.
  • Maintain a detailed inspector's logbook.
  • Complete and submit inspection reports accurately describing work performed.
  • Report safety issues to the Construction Manager, Chief Inspector, and Safety Inspector.
  • Plan and organize inspection duties in advance.
  • Discuss design changes or material substitutions with the Construction Manager.
  • Verify materials used in installation comply with company requirements.
  • Keep the Chief Inspector informed of daily problems or anticipated issues.
  • Understand the relationship between quality assurance, quality control, and inspection procedures.
  • Monitor the quality of welds to ensure sound welds are produced.
  • Assure repairs to defects in pipe welds meet requirements.
  • Ensure welding materials are of proper type and quality.
  • Inspect other contractors' work for compliance with permit requirements.
  • Verify other contractors have necessary equipment and safety measures.
  • Field verify construction equipment and materials for inventory and billing.
  • Verify that other contractors follow company procedures for applying coatings.
  • Complete and submit Daily Inspection Report forms.
  • Witness hydrostatic testing and verify calibration papers.
  • Field validate that all environmental BMPs are followed by other contractors.
  • Visually inspect pipe for defects and ensure proper coating before backfill.
  • Coordinate with other contractors' survey crews for as-built information.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of pipeline construction and/or inspection experience.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, alignment sheets, and valve maps.
  • Experience inspecting the application of field applied pipeline coatings.
  • Familiarity with DOT 192 and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to read and implement the company's OPM and attachments.
  • American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector (AWS CWI or SCWI).
  • NACE CIP Level 1 certification.
  • Knowledge of codes and standards including API 1104, ASME B 31.8, NACE, and SSPC.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel.
