Job Description
Overview
The Pipefitter position is located in the Plumbing Shop within the Maintenance and Repair Section of Facilities Management Service at the VA New Jersey Healthcare System, covering both the Lyons Campus and the East Orange Campus. The role involves the installation, modification, repair, and maintenance of high-temperature and high-pressure piping systems, particularly steam heating and steam-generating systems.
Responsibilities
- Make repairs and maintenance to steam-related equipment including steam hot water heaters and pressure reducing stations.
- Repair or re-pipe damaged steam lines and condensate lines to systems up to 100 lbs. of steam pressure.
- Fabricate, install, and repair various plumbing systems such as water distribution and gas systems.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs.
- Clean and unplug drain stoppages in sanitary and storm sewers using various tools.
- Measure pipes and perform necessary cuts, threads, and reams.
- Use blueprints, charts, and sketches to plan and layout installations and repairs.
