Overview

The Certified Welder / Steel Shop Helper is responsible for fitting and welding steel, aluminum, and stainless-steel parts using Mig and/or Stick processes. This role requires reading blueprints, performing maintenance on welding equipment, and ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints and/or drawings to determine the specific welding equipment needed for the job.
  • Examine weld for bead size and other specifications.
  • Select torch, torch tip, filler rod, and flux according to welding specifications or type and thickness of material.
  • Tack assemblies together.
  • Chip off excess weld, slag, and splatter.
  • Clean or de-grease parts.
  • Perform all necessary maintenance and repair on all equipment used in welding.
  • Move parts in and finished product out of the welding area.
  • Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift, bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Ability to stand for 8 to 12 hour shifts.
  • Flexibility with schedule.
  • Ability to work outside all day in heat or cold.
  • Ability to keep hand and arm steady while moving or holding in one position.
  • Continuously lift to 40+ lbs.
  • Willingness to work overtime and mandatory Saturdays when scheduled.
