Overview
The Certified Welder / Steel Shop Helper is responsible for fitting and welding steel, aluminum, and stainless-steel parts using Mig and/or Stick processes. This role requires reading blueprints, performing maintenance on welding equipment, and ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints and/or drawings to determine the specific welding equipment needed for the job.
- Examine weld for bead size and other specifications.
- Select torch, torch tip, filler rod, and flux according to welding specifications or type and thickness of material.
- Tack assemblies together.
- Chip off excess weld, slag, and splatter.
- Clean or de-grease parts.
- Perform all necessary maintenance and repair on all equipment used in welding.
- Move parts in and finished product out of the welding area.
- Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards.
Requirements
- Ability to lift, bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
- Ability to stand for 8 to 12 hour shifts.
- Flexibility with schedule.
- Ability to work outside all day in heat or cold.
- Ability to keep hand and arm steady while moving or holding in one position.
- Continuously lift to 40+ lbs.
- Willingness to work overtime and mandatory Saturdays when scheduled.
