Overview

Ferrara/KME is a leading manufacturer of fire trucks and emergency response vehicles, dedicated to providing custom solutions for municipal and industrial fire departments. The Welder I position involves performing precise welds on components for specialized vehicles, ensuring quality and safety in the manufacturing process.

Responsibilities

• Work from shop orders, specifications, prints, and instructions.
• Review material and product requirements and ensure parts are cut and prepared as prescribed.
• Set parts in assembly fixture, position, layout, and clamp in place to ensure dimensional accuracy.
• Select welding parameters per specified weld procedures.
• Work in teams and follow work instructions to minimize unit distortion.
• Fit, tack, and weld joints in specific locations according to designated welding procedure specifications.
• Manipulate large, heavy units as required for efficient welding operations.
• Make visual and dimensional checks of work and document as required.
• Move work to succeeding work areas to maintain workflow.
• Notify supervisor of unusual equipment or operating problems.
• Support training and orientation programs for new and transferring employees.
• Ensure weld quality is inspected by the Ferrara Quality Department or third-party agency.

Requirements

• Basic welding knowledge with experience or training in GMAW processes.
• Knowledgeable in Lean Methodologies.
• Ability to read and understand basic assembly prints and weld symbols.
