Overview

The Industrial Equipment Mechanic position is located at the Department of Veterans Affairs VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare Center. The role involves various mechanical tasks including installation, repair, and maintenance of equipment critical to the hospital's functions.

Responsibilities

  • Lays out fabrication, installs hand and guard rails, room partitions and dividers, and removes and repairs metal doors.
  • Analyzes automatic door operators, adjusts, repairs, overhauls, and replaces door closers and metal sash balances.
  • Fabricates, repairs, and installs window screens.
  • Performs preventive maintenance or complete overhaul of condensate, sump, circulating pumps, and other pumps.
  • Evaluates and determines malfunction or problem areas and repairs or modifies complex equipment to meet required performance standards.
  • Repairs and overhauls dietetic equipment such as industrial ovens, mixers, and dishwashers.
  • Repairs and maintains engineering equipment including power hacksaws, handsaws, drill presses, grinders, and hoists.
  • Repairs all types of power hand tools.
  • Performs touch-up painting, patches plaster, installs piping and tubing, and makes simple sheet metal repairs.
  • May work odd shifts or overtime to accomplish critical maintenance or repairs.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and makes safety and preventive inspections of utilities.

Requirements

  • Physical exertion related to lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects of varying weights and sizes.
  • Ability to perform movements such as walking, running, climbing, crawling, and bending.
  • Experience in equipment assembly, installation, repair, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications, including blueprint reading.
  • Knowledge of technical practices and the use and maintenance of tools and equipment.

Additional Information

  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
