Mesa Public Schools is recognized as one of the Best Employers in Arizona and offers a full-time Maintenance Worker position responsible for performing specialized mechanical work, assisting in pest management, and ensuring the maintenance of school facilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform specialized mechanical work throughout the district to assist skilled tradesmen.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, cleaning, and repair of district sites.
- Service a variety of components, machinery, and related equipment.
- Perform asbestos removal as needed per maintenance supervisor according to AHERA protocol.
- Respond to pest intrusion issues and determine course of action according to established guidelines.
- Maintain grease traps and install and maintain time clocks and pumps for kitchen grease traps.
- Repair, design, or replace restroom partitions district-wide.
- Assist in the training of assigned personnel on procedures and proper use of equipment.
- Ensure adequate availability and supply of materials to complete assignments safely and timely.
- Keep service vehicle clean, orderly, and properly stocked with parts and supplies.
- Process work orders and related paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assist in keeping the shop clean.
- Assist other personnel as required to support them in completing their work activities.
Requirements
- High School education or equivalent.
- Valid Arizona driver’s license.
- Must obtain AHERA Asbestos Worker certification during probationary period.
- Three years’ experience in the maintenance related field.

- Primarily on school grounds (indoors and outdoors).
- Usually full-time during regular school hours; may require evening or weekend shifts for special events or emergency repairs.
- Can involve climbing ladders, working on rooftops, or in tight or elevated spaces.
- Exposure to dust, cleaning chemicals, noise from equipment, and varying weather conditions.
- Walking and standing for long periods.
- Lifting or moving heavy objects often 50 lbs. or more.
