Overview
The Chassis Mobile Mechanic will perform mechanical repairs and inspections in a depot/repair facility environment, focusing on chassis repairs including brakes, welding, and part replacements. The role requires adherence to FMCSA standards and effective use of mobile technology for logging work.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair all chassis defects.
- Repair ABS systems, air brake systems, wheel ends, and structural assemblies.
- Perform some welding and fabrication of chassis.
- Use a mobile app to log work orders and document repairs.
- Drive a mobile truck to locations to complete repairs on DCLI chassis.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- At least 2 years of experience in trailer/chassis mechanics.
- FMCSA and brake certifications required.
- Knowledge in MIG and/or ARC welding and torch use.
- Knowledge of AAR, IICL, and DOT rules and criteria.
- Ability to work in a shop environment with some mobile repairs.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently without direct supervision.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to work all shifts as required, including weekends.
- Capable of lifting 50 lbs.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedure manuals.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products and work order processing apps.
- Valid driver's license and good driving history.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
