Overview

The Mechanic I position involves repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards. The role requires knowledge of machines and tools, and aims to achieve operational excellence in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
  • Provide a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.
  • Repair and replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery and equipment.
  • Maintain the operating condition of industrial production and processing machinery and equipment.
  • Reassemble equipment after inspections, testing, or repairs.
  • Operate newly repaired machinery to verify adequacy of repairs.
  • Record repairs and maintenance performed.
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
  • Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using diagnostic equipment.
  • Provide assistance throughout the yard as needed.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.
  • Support the Company's Internal Control process and suggest modifications to policies.
  • Communicate problems in operations or policy violations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED Certification preferred.
  • 5 years of experience assisting skilled trades persons in heavy equipment repair and maintenance required.
  • Associates degree in Heavy Duty Truck or Heavy Equipment Repair and 2 years of relevant experience may also be considered.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to drive an automobile.

Additional Information

  • This position is regularly exposed to all weather conditions.
  • Physical hazards such as noise, fumes, and dirt are present.
  • Extra hours may be required, sometimes on weekends, weekdays, and holidays.
