Overview

SunOpta delivers customized supply chain solutions and innovation for top brands, retailers, and foodservice providers across a broad portfolio of beverages, broths, and better-for-you snacks. The Fabrication Technician is responsible for reading blueprints, taking measurements, and determining the best welding method for each job, as well as setting up components as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and coordinates with Supervisor/Manager details of work order procedures.
  • Gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
  • Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using cutting and welding techniques and equipment.
  • Prepares, assembles, and tacks weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
  • Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area.
  • Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered.
  • Interacts with coworkers to effectively complete tasks.
  • Participates in project team meetings on an as-needed basis.
  • Welds components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.
  • Maintains manual dexterity and stability for precision work.
  • Lifts up to 75 pounds at times.
  • Traverses facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Four years of experience and appropriate welding certifications for the type of welds to be performed.
  • Basic design and math skills.
  • Knowledge of technology and engineering.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Critical thinking.
  • Ability to read blueprints of construction items.
  • Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding.
  • Basic understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models, and blueprints.
  • Sanitary Welding certificate or Grade A experience preferred.
  • Ability to set up and use a tig welder without help.
  • Ability to cut, weld, grind, and polish with minimal supervision.
  • Safety oriented.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms.
  • Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.
  • Prioritize quality over quantity and take pride in your work.
  • Deadline driven.

Additional Information

  • The work environment is wet and/or humid, with moving mechanical parts and extreme heat.
  • A 24/7 36/48-hour work week will be considered normal.
  • Extra hours, off hours, and extra workdays may be required.
