Overview
The Welder position involves joining metals using GTAW and GMAW welding processes, as well as cutting metals with Oxy-Fuel or plasma Arc cutting equipment. Candidates must be proficient in welding thin gage aluminum and able to pass various welding tests per AWS codes and Military Standards.
Responsibilities
- Receive instructions verbally or from job cards and detailed prints.
- Perform up to three types of welding processes, including GMAW and GTAW.
- Read and understand blueprints and associated welding symbols.
- Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
- Assist with and construct welding jigs and fixtures.
- Select proper welding parameters and electrodes for various metals.
- Perform tack welding and use Oxygen/Fuel torch for heating and cutting.
- Chip, grind, and clean welds as necessary.
- Perform tasks associated with welding, including preparation and inspection.
- Use test equipment to check work.
- Aid in designing and debugging new welding fixtures in senior positions.
- Safely operate overhead cranes and hoists.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 2+ years minimum related experience.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure and convert between fractions and decimals.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and routings.
