Overview
This entry-level apprentice position involves assisting in service work related to electrical transmission and distribution facilities. The role requires operating line trucks, responding to trouble calls, and supporting construction and repair crews under supervision.
Responsibilities
- Perform duties in accordance with the Company's safety rules and report unsafe conditions.
- Demonstrate the ability to operate Company equipment and work on de-energized conductors and equipment during the first six months.
- Work on energized conductors and equipment up to 260 volts under general supervision after six months.
- Assist with the installation and removal of structures near energized primary conductors under supervision.
- Assemble, install, maintain, remove, and inspect conductors and associated equipment on de-energized facilities.
- Climb poles and structures and work from bucket trucks or ladders.
- Operate mechanized equipment for installation and maintenance of facilities.
- Use and care for insulating rubber gloves and personal protective equipment.
- Assist with handling, maintaining, and installing poles and structures.
- Operate portable power tools, generators, and pumps.
- Install, maintain, read, and remove single-phase meters and associated equipment.
- Install, maintain, and remove services and secondary cable.
- Install, maintain, and remove dusk-to-dawn and street light equipment.
- Set and remove barricades, flags, signs, and flares; direct traffic.
- Load, unload, and store materials, tools, and equipment.
- Assist with underground facilities installation and maintenance.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a clean condition.
- Become familiar with electronic devices for record-keeping and reporting.
- Attend training and assist in training other employees.
- Report irregularities and assist employees of higher classification.
