Overview
This is an on-call, as-needed hourly position for an industry professional who will help train students in the Welding Technology Program. The instructor must ensure a positive and active learning environment in classrooms and labs, providing students with relevant experiences.
Responsibilities
- Assist program faculty in instructing students according to syllabi and lesson plans.
- Develop and execute active learning experiences that engage students.
- Communicate clear objectives and prepare classrooms and labs for learning activities.
- Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments in a timely manner.
- Observe and evaluate student performance, providing feedback and notifying full-time instructors of issues.
- Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
- Maintain integrity and confidentiality regarding student information.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and FERPA requirements.
- Model a professional environment for students.
- Participate actively as a member of the instructional team.
- Assist in ensuring program compliance with COE accreditation standards.
- Help with biannual Occupational Advisory Committee meetings.
- Treat students and staff with respect and report violations to HR or Student Services.
- Comply with Dixie Tech Policies and Procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 3+ years experience in the industry required.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate Degree or Industry-Recognized Certificate.
- Experience with Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Oxyfuel Cutting, and Plasma Arc Cutting.
- Experience in instructing is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as sitting, standing, reaching, bending, kneeling, stooping, climbing, and lifting items weighing 60 pounds or less.
Additional Information
- A flexible schedule is required, with hours varying depending on program needs.
- Class times for Welding cohorts run from 6:30 am - 11:30 pm, 11:30 am - 4:30 pm, and 4:30 pm - 9:30 pm.
