Overview

The Welding Technician II performs advanced welding techniques and fabricates high-quality products by cutting, grinding, and welding using MIG and TIG applications. This role aligns with Master’s core values of excellence, integrity, positive communication, and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, build sheets, travelers, or other paperwork dictating product characteristics.
  • Performs all welding procedures including machine settings, bottles, and necessary fittings.
  • Sets up and performs MIG and TIG Welding operations.
  • Uses a variety of hand tools including pneumatic tools such as die grinders and cutting wheels, electric grinders, pry bars, chisels, clamps, and others.
  • Fabrics products through cutting, grinding, and welding methods.
  • Utilizes measuring instruments such as tape measures, calipers, gauges, and 'string checks' to ensure the product built is within quality tolerances.
  • Inspects welds for cracks, burn through, and weld spatter.
  • Grinds and cleans areas where required.
  • Communicates effectively with team members, other departments, and customers.
  • Maintains welding machines (tip, liner, changes, etc.) and welding vertical, horizontal, and overhead.
  • Follows hazardous waste disposal program and fire prevention procedures.
  • Complies with all health and safety programs.
  • Maintains a neat and clean work area.

Requirements

  • Welding Certification, completion of a formal apprenticeship, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Metal Inert Gas (MIG) or Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding experience.
  • Experience in maintaining Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)/Metal Inert Gas Welding (MIG) welding machines.
  • Ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring tools.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools.
  • Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented and consistent.
  • Understanding of safety standards and regulations in the automotive industry.
  • Communication skills to work effectively with team members, other engineers, and customers.
  • Basic computer skills.

Additional Information

  • Classification: Non-exempt
  • Position Type: Full-time
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Work Location: Headquarters, Kansas City, MO
  • Travel Requirements: Less than 5%
