Overview

The Insulator I position involves applying, removing, and repairing insulation on industrial equipment and mechanical systems to control noise and maintain temperatures. This role is part of a maintenance team and requires adherence to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, instructions, and other documentation.
  • Determine the amounts and select required insulation materials based on various factors.
  • Move materials and equipment to work locations and set up the work site.
  • Cover, seal, or finish insulated surfaces or access holes with various materials.
  • Fit insulation around obstructions and shape materials as required.
  • Install sheet metal around insulated pipes to protect insulation.
  • Measure and cut insulation for covering surfaces using various tools.
  • Prepare surfaces for insulation application with adhesives or cement.
  • Cover or seal insulation with preformed covers or tape to secure it.
  • Follow all hazardous waste handling guidelines.
  • May remove or seal off old asbestos insulation following safety procedures.
  • Complete records, maintain tools and equipment, and perform clean-up activities.
  • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules.

  • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
  • Make decisions based on measurable criteria.

  • NCCER - Industrial Insulator certification required.
